Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

As suggested in wiki/Testing/Cases, I'm trying to add a feed to my rhythmbox. If I select "Podcasts" from "Library" (which I might be reasonably expected to try, although it's not quite obvious how this counts as "Library) there is no indication in the UI what to do next.

Testing/Cases says I have to right-click on "the empty list". If I right-click on "All 0 feeds" or the space below it I do indeed get a suitable menu. However, I don't think this is a discoverable UI.

Thank you for your bug. What about the toolbar icon, do you think it's not obvious enough? You also have a menu item in the "Music" menu. Do you have any other suggestion to make it easier?

Confirming after discussion on IRC, the toolbar icon would be enough if it was on screen, at the moment using 1280x1024 it's not

I should probably add a comment here since I'm the one who wrote 'right-click' in the test case. There is indeed an icon in the podcast section, which is arguably more discoverable than the right-click option.

Instead of describing the icon in the test case, I opted for right-click. The solution might just be to change the test case and add a picture of the icon.

... if it shows up :-).

I wasn't criticising the test case. If I'd seen another more
discoverable way to do it I would probably have clicked on that anyway
to check that it worked.

that's somewhat a duplicate of bug #145234

Sebastien, I honestly do not see how this bug is related to Bug #145234 and Bug #173340. This bug discusses the discoverability of the Add feed option under podcasts, while the other two bugs talk about the size of the window cutting off the items on the left hand side. The title of this bug report also does not reflect the issue described in the bug report. If this bug was fixed by making the Add feed option more discoverable, I fail to see how this would fix the duplicate bug reports as well.

Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote :

The toolbar icon is not on screen because the default window geometry is not correct, the sidebar issue is due to the same thing as is your bug, did you read the bug title?

Nanley Chery (nanoman) wrote :

I did read the title. However, I did not get from the comments that the icon did not show up due to the window size being too small. Thanks for clearing it up.

Nanley Chery (nanoman) wrote :

I think this bug may be attributed to the small size of the CD case icon/image. The sidebar is shortened just enough so that the image does not appear pixelated. Maybe replacing the image with an svg and writing code to detect the appropriate window size would solve this bug.

Since this report have a long time without activity, please could you check (if is possible) in latest version included in Karmic if this issue is still happening? Thanks in advance.
