I suggest emailing or dropping a suggestion with the developers of Rhythmbox directly. They code and build the packages that ubuntu just re-builds and aggregates into a distro. Good luck.

+1 from me too!

I was using Rhythmbox quite happily with my PC speakers until I had to switch to using earphones. The earphones push out much less low-frequency than the speakers - the resulting sound quality just isn't good enough.

I really tried to find a solution - the Rhythmbox developers on the mailing lists seem to reject a Rhythmbox-specific equalizer in favour of a system-wide equalizer. Unfortunately I couldn't find either.

In the meantime I'm having to use XMMS - its inbuilt equalizer/amplifier does the job perfectly.

This is one thing I miss badly in almost all gnome music players (except Exaile).

A bit tangential, but Banshee just got this in SVN: http://abock.org/2008/01/25/software-eq-in-banshee.

@Andrew

Banshee is much late at this. Exaile had it right at the time of Gutsy release. From my experience, Exaile is much faster than Banshee too.

I totally agree... Every repectable music player just has to have an equalizer...
I really don't see where the developers of Rhythmbox are headed, with it being the default music player and manager of Ubuntu, but without an equalizer... It is small glitches like this that make Ubuntu unattractive to new people...

there's a patch upstream that you're welcome to test and give feedback to the upstream bug report if you want this to be implemented shortly, thanks.

I found this equalizer on this site http://cs.helsinki.fi/u/ttokalli/rb-plugins/ (Teemu Kallio did the job), it works but i think that this should be embedded in RB, just like Jamendo (on the left plane for example). I would tried my self to program it, but i know little about python programing.

Please do not add plugins as attachments, a bug tracker is not for that, if you want to discuss things please raise them to a mailing list, etc. Thanks.

I was rather surprised not to see such an essential part of a music player as the equalizer! It kind of spoils a bit my otherwise very high opinion of RhythmBox.

Until Rythmbox has no equalizer, I use Banshee who has a good one.

Please, give us an equalizer :)

You better comment on the upstream bug tracker, the upstream developers implement the new features, Ubuntu is just packaging the software they provide ATM and fixing bugs. Please comment on http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76522 ; Thanks.

Oh come on! Include a graphic equalizer in Rhythmbox ... Gstreamer already has the plugin available .... just give it a GUI!!

It's only on issues like this that I regret using GNOME. If GTK+/C weren't so convoluted I might consider having a go at developing one myself. But life is just too short for GTK+/C. It's kind of ironic, the minimalist desktop environment is powered by a pig's breakfast of a development stack, and the most offensively cluttered desktop environment is powered by a very rational one. Why?!! Could someone please rebuild GNOME in QT/C++ :P
