Another workaround (from http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2080739) is to choose a custom profile for ripping, then restart Rhythmbox.

Ubuntu Unity 14.04

When I try to rip an audio cd to mp3, Rhythmbox asks for installing MPEG-1 Layer 3 (MP3) encoder, it searches but is unable to find it.

Asunder works very fine with the same CD.

I recently upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04 and previous versionS of Rhythmbox were able to rip cd to mp3.
