16.04 Xenial is still in the maintenance phase (see https://ubuntu.com/about/release-cycle) so that fix ought to be back-ported.

Thank you for your bug report, could you give some details on the server you are connecting to. What protocol and settings do you use? What error do you get?
Could you add your 'journalctl -b 0' log after getting the issue?
