Bug Description
I have one headless PC, which I use as Virtual Machine Server using virtualbox and its rdp facility. On my main laptop I have a dual screen configuration 1680x1050 and 1280x800 running Ubuntu 11.10. Where my window end up, is a gamble in Ubuntu 11.10.
I like to use the smaller screen, so I set the resolution to 1280x750 using -g. In this way I can drag the screen anywhere.
Unfortunately often the result is as follows:
rdesktop -g 1280x750 -u nnnnnnn -p zzzzz/11 -P -z 192.168.
Autoselected keyboard map en-us
WARNING: Remote desktop changed from 1280x750 to 1680x1050.
I do not expect to be overruled by rdesktop, I know why I specified the resolution like I did. This is a completely inappropriate own initiative. It is also wrong because the rdesktop window including the window decoration and unity topbar does not fit on any of the two screens anymore.
Please Keep It Simple
ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10
Package: rdesktop 1.7.0-1ubuntu2
ProcVersionSign
Uname: Linux 3.0.0-15-generic x86_64
ApportVersion: 1.23-0ubuntu4
Architecture: amd64
Date: Fri Jan 20 16:50:59 2012
InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric Ocelot" - Release amd64 (20111012)
SourcePackage: rdesktop
UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install)
I detected that the problem is on the interface between rdesktop and the rdp server of virtualbox. Rdesktop uses the resolution selected in the past by the rdp server. I cannot change the resolution using the linux version of rdesktop, but I can change the resolution using the windows XP version of remote desktop.
Note that the warning message is confusing, Remote Ddesktop does not take the initiative to change the resolution, but it is forced to use the resolution of the rdp server. So I propose a message like: Need to use the remote desktop server resolution of wxh.
