I had the same problem, and I saw that there was a topic on the forum [1] of a man that tried to install it directly. He had other problems then, but this could be a solution ?...

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Could you please attach the files in /var/log/dist-upgrade to this bug report?

This is likely a dup of bug 256131

Thanks. There's no evidence of what has failed is this log. Can you please attach the file /var/log/apt/term.log . You need to have root privileges in order to read that file.

Thanks in advance.

Shirish, I'm sorry but I'm not sure to understand what the problem is here. Is it that scrollkeeper is removed when you're installing rarian-compat and can't install both ?

hi Jean,
I know that rarian-compat and scrollkeeper conflict with one another
as they provide the same service. I also realized the the upstream of
scrollkeeper isn't maintained hence ubuntu is thinking or using
rarian-compat and I see no problem with that as well.

My only issue is the messages which came when I was installing
rarian-compat or while I was removing rarian-compat. The messages I
felt were invasive and creates doubt in the mind of the user.

Something like :-

Package scrollkeeper is to be removed.
Package rarian-compat which provides scrollkeeper is not installed.
zenity depends on rarian-compat | scrollkeeper; however:
 Package rarian-compat is not installed.
Package scrollkeeper is to be removed.

now if you look at the message itself, its misleading for I was
installing rarian-compat while it says

Package rarian-compat which provides scrollkeeper is not installed.

Also let's say even if I was uninstalling just scollkeeper the message
could have been user-friendly saying something like should I install
rarian-compat for you if you deinstalling/removing/purging
scrollkeeper or vice-versa.

The message itself makes me nervous. Hope I'm clearer this time around :)
