Can you tell me how you've upgraded ?

I'm still fighting with linux.... I did update-manager -d. When I rebooted, the system was inoperable.

I had to update /boot/grub/menu.lst as it had lost all my partitions, then when I got to login, it hung every time I tried to start gnome. I got XFCE working, and tried lots of things, before realising that compiz was my problem. It is now uninstalled, and everything is working except sound.

I have a fully working installation on another partition, but had similar issues getting that working.

If you get a fix working, I can test it using the second partition - i would do a fresh install of hardy then
run update-manager -d.

My machine is a dell GX-260 and during this process I upgraded the bios from A06 to A09
