As of recently it is working again on this system:

When will this bug be fixed?

Well for me it has been fixed. All I did was to desinstall texmaker and texlive, update kernel and reinstall the newest software version.

The versions of the packages you mentioned in #12 are not available in the stable repositories. From which repositories did you install these packages?

Therefore, I think, many people with the default installation are affected by this bug.

@ Alexander Buchner

Version 4.4.1 is available from the developer web page. It is based on Qt4 and it works very well for me (Ubuntu 14.10 64bit, TexLive from repositories).

Alexander Buchner (alexander-buchner) wrote :

Ok, I understand. But installing software that is not in the repositories can't be the solution.
People are expecting to get their software fixed within the repositories. What do the people do who don't read this bug report? They also deserve a fix, don't they?

Davide (dspinell) wrote :

I agree, and in this case the solution would be as simple as including the new version in the repositories

I can confirm that shortcuts in the repository version does not work on Ubuntu 14.10.

My solution:
- uninstall Texmaker
- Download latest version from http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/download.html#linux and install it

For me it was not neccessary to uninstall texlive.

For me since recently (I don't know since when exactly because I do not use this laptop a lot) a bunch of system shortcuts (System settings > Keyboard > Shortcuts) stopped working on an Acer C720 (running Ubuntu 15.04).

Some shortcuts do now work for me. I have, for example SHIFT+F7 to increase display brightness, and ALT+CTRL+T to launch a terminal and SHIFT+BACKSPACE = DELETE. These don't work. Some others, like ALT+CTRL+Cursor keys to move between virtual desktops for example work fine.

Tim Peeters (tpeeters) wrote :

Sorry my comment above was about system shortcuts, not texmaker. But they might be related?

Revision history for this message
khalismur (abmscheer-deactivatedaccount) wrote :

They are related apparently. All that has to be done is for the repo version of texmaker to be updated!

Revision history for this message
Daniel Oehry (daniel-oehry) wrote :

It is not so simple: Apparently there are two different possible solutions:

1) The problem with the shortcuts began with the change to qt5. If Texmaker for Ubuntu is compiled with qt4, there are no problems. This is, why the packages from http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/download.html are working.

2) The problem is not in the Texmaker-sources, but in the qt5-sources from Ubuntu. It has to be fixed there.

Well I'm clearly not familiar with Ubuntu bug updates then, thanks for the information, Daniel.

This has been around for more than six months now and is labelled as "high importance" but still needs a fix. Is this common?

Same problem here. CTRL-ALT(-SHIFT)-direction works, CTRL-ATL-T for terminal doesn't, ALT-tab works, ALT-SHIFT-tab doesn't... strangely enough if I change terminal to CTRL-ALT-N it works, it also works with CTRL-ALT-D, but if I try to set "Hide all windows" to CTRL-ALT-D it doesn't work.

SIDENOTE: It doesn't happen all the time but when it happens the "shutdown animation" flickers when I shutdown. Things seem to be related, every time Shortcuts stop working and I restart I see the flicker, when things are working fine I never see the flicker

Was working fine on 14.04

Same problem here.
The short-cuts stop working after resuming from standby AND logging in to TTY2.
When switching to TTY7 the short-cuts work in the login screen, but after logging in they don't work any more.
When this happens, shutdown/restart/logging out takes ages as well.

Also on my asus zenbook my brightness keys fn+f5 and fn+f6 are the only fn keys working. They still change the brightness bus there is no pop-up icon showing the brightness level. This does appear before the first system standby.

Ideally make use of the following program CompizConfig Settings Manager. It
solves most settings issues related to GUI and desktop issues.
I got my screen back within 2 minutes.

If you don't want to remove the appmenu-qt5 app, another workaround to make the shortcuts work again is to launch texmaker without global menu (that is with the menu bar inside texmaker window).
You can do this by simply changing the way texmaker is loaded (using alacarte for example) from
texmaker %F
to
env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY= texmaker %F

That works perfectly on my computer at least.

Thats right. Problem of non-functioning keyboard shortcuts for Texmaker is resolved by removing appmenu-qt5, but no one wrote the command. So here u go, open terminal and run these commands one by one, log out system and login and u will b redy to rock.

sudo apt-get remove appmenu-qt5
sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove appmenu-qt5

While removing appmenu-qt5 solves the issue, it also removes the unified menu which isn't so nice. For me, simply downloading and installing the qt4 version of texmaker (for Ubuntu 15.10, works just fine on 16.04) from the texmaker homepage solved the issue. Now I still have the unified menu, shortcuts working plus the latest version of Texmaker :)
The version I used for this: http://www.xm1math.net/texmaker/texmaker_ubuntu_15.10_4.5_amd64.deb

Of course, a proper fix for qt5 would still be nice.
