IIRC the argument was that the print handling in KDE 3 was unmaintained. Last I checked, any printing issues were marked to be handled at some undetermined point in time.

By now, I found it to be a neat solution to just use non-KDE applications in any area where printing might be necessary. Gnome somehow manages to at least have a working print settings dialog (i.e. it works for our environment). However, that does not make this bug any less annoying.

As for printer settings overriding QT, I can not confirm that, since over here, QT will always override CUPS/printer settings.
