Bug Description

Binary package hint: vlc

When I do a file operation (Open, etc.), I can see no bookmark entries ('Places') for remote locations (FTP, SMP, etc.) in the file dialog. Also, the (gvfs-) connected servers are also not shown on the left in this dialog.

This problems happens with a lot of applications, so maybe it's better to solve this in the GNOME-framework, by showing the Places entries by default.

VLC uses the standard Qt open file dialog. This is a problem with the GTK engine for Qt, not with VLC.

seems like vlc is using the fileselector in local mode, it's a vlc issue

VLC uses plain standard QFileDialog::getOpenFileName(). That function has no local or remote mode. If there is such a thing in GTK, then it's not enabled by the GTK Qt4 GUI platform, VLC cannot do anything about that.

affects: vlc (Ubuntu) → qt4-x11 (Ubuntu)
