Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Regions of the screen that are not repainted or are simply filled with static. If those regions contain a widget (a button or a line edit, for example) moving the mouse over them triggers a correct repaint.

Changing to use XAA resolves the issue.

Thank you for attaching all these files.

Could you also include a digital photo or two of the screen showing the corruption?

Also, in speaking with Intel on bug 338669 they indicate that these problems are often a client application issue. What are your thoughts on this possibility? Do you see the issue only in specific apps or in general everywhere on the screen? Your photo could help in identifying this.

I am one of the reporters (I reported bug #337363), but I never expierenced any of the issues shown in the AndreasWenning's artifacts.tar.gz.
All issues I've seen, are related to widgets, and depend on the widget style chosen in system settings. I've attached screenshots in Widgets.zip.
(However, they disappear too when I chose XAA.)

From the discussion about this (and bug 338669, which seems to be a dupe) at https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=187356 it sounds like this is a Qt bug, rather than a video driver issue.

Same deal here on my mobility radeon, XAA resolves the artifacts and also make it go much much faster. Correct me if I'm wrong but surely this is a problem with EXA if activationg XAA corrects all the problems.

Oh, forgot to add: I'm using xfwm4 (XFCE's window manager), and switching off the composite effects in the window manager (without changing the xorg.conf) also resolves this problem for me.

I can confirm this using the FOSS drivers on a Dell Inspiron laptop with ATI Mobility Radeon x1400 video card.
