Bug Description

Binary package hint: qt4-qtconfig

I'm running Intrepid, and have packages qt4-qtconfig 4.4.3-0ubuntu1, phonon 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1, libgstreamer 0.10.21-4, and phonon-backend-gstreamer 4:4.2.0-0ubuntu1 installed. qtconfig says that the "Phonon GStreamer backend [is] not available", when it should be.

Source package is qt4-x11.

Technically Qt is correct here; we don't compile phonon as it is distributed by Qt, so it would make sense that it can't find it where it wants to. We use the more-updated phonon sources as distributed alongside KDE. You can configure frontends, backends, etc from System Settings in KDE.

See bug 253854 about Qt phonon.

Yeah... but this is a problem for Qt4 apps and related ones (PyQt, and so
on), Since we need Qt4 phonon lib to work. So i think Kubuntu devs should
provide a way to have the phonon libs from Qt4. Cause now, even id i provide
the Qt4 packages of phonon, it conflicts with the KDE ones.

Devs claim this is fixed in Karmic.

I beg to differ.

Wrongly a duplicate then. We are using Qt Phonon, though.

When this will be fixed guys? come on... Now we are in Karmic and will always have problems with Qt4 phonon?

I've tried installing all the phonon related packages in Karmic and still qt4-settings shows the Phonon tab with everything greyed out.

Shame that this won't get fixed for Lucid.

Still nothing for Precise.

Pathetic.

I'm still seeing this issue on 12.04.2 LTS using potentially updated package qt4-qtconfig from 4:4.8.1-0ubuntu5~precise1~test1
via 'ppa:ubuntu-sdk-team/ppa'

How would I go about bypassing pulseaudio (which seems to be the default sink for all Qt apps) and entering the desired ALSA device directly?
