Bug Description

Right after opening the hotkey settings of vlc, Xorg started to assign memory as crazy. I killed X and tried it again. And Xorg leaked memory again as mad.

ubuntu-bug was launched via ssh while Xorg drove crazy.

# ps -e -orss=,args= | sort -b -k1,1n | pr -TW$COLUMNS | grep X

Please don't assign bugs to *upstream* VLC unless:
- you have forwarded them on the VLC bug tracker,
- they affect the latest upstream version,
*and*
- they are not caused by the utter disaster that the Ubuntu/Unity fork of Qt4 constitutes.

Thank you. Upstream does not normally read Launchpad bugs, except by luck.

Also, this looks very much like a bug in Ubuntu's Qt4. We have quite a few Ubuntu specific reports of infinite memory leaks in the UI.

Changed in vlc:
status: New → Invalid

Based on the recent history of Ubuntu VLC, I think this is neither Xorg nor VLC but Qt4...

affects: xorg (Ubuntu) → qt4-x11 (Ubuntu)
