Bug Description

When Qgis is started it goes immediately full screen and does not have a menu bar. This seems to be related to the recently introduced integrated menu bar. Solved the problem by removing the integrated menu bar packages

sudo apt-get remove indicator-appmenu appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-gtk appmenu-qt

Qgis should either be made compatible with the new integrated menus or even better the new integrated menu bar should be fixed, because it caused problems with several other programmes as well on my machine.

Still same behaviour. The file menu now appears when clicking onto the map, but resizing, minizing or switching windows with alt-tab is still blocked. I found a work around by Alt+right click on the menu bar, but this is rather inconvenient.

I had exactly the same issue. Solution was pretty simple

0. Close your Qgis
1. Open your /home/USER_NAME/.config/QGIS/QGIS2.conf
2. Find section [qgis]
3. Search for style=
in my case was this line empty (so style= )
4. Change this line to e.g. style=Plastique
5. Save changes and restart Qgis

Recently I did a fresh install of Trusty including QGIS 2.8.1 from the unstable ppa. The menu appeared, but qgis automatically went into full screen so that the window decorations were missing. The window decorations can be restored by pressing F11 or from command line with

wmctrl -r "QGIS 2.8.1-Wien" -b remove,fullscreen

I just had the same problem, so it is not fixed, at least with the newer versions, ubuntu 16.4 and qgis 2.8.6; I did the same recommended by Karl Kastner:

sudo apt-get remove indicator-appmenu appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-gtk appmenu-qt

and it worked great! Thanks
