Measure line tool extremly slow since latest update

Since the latest update the measure line tool is practically unusable. After selecting the segment with the mouse on the map QGIS becomes unresponsive for 10s or more. Used to work like a charm until recently with the same project file and data. This seems to be related to the on the fly projection.
