[...]
I: Running command: chroot mips /debootstrap/debootstrap --second-stage
qemu: uncaught target signal 11 (Segmentation fault) - core dumped

Same is true of mipsel.

This appears to be related but I'm not sure if it is the same bug:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=707629

The debootstrap.log doesn't say anything useful: it's only two lines.

That bug refers to a newer version of qemu-user-static.

ubuntu-bug automatically chooses qemu-linaro but I think this should probably be assigned to qemu.

affects: qemu-linaro (Ubuntu) → qemu (Ubuntu)

qemu-linaro in precise is in fact built from the qemu-linaro source package.

This does not occur on i386. The bug only appears on amd64.

Well, it's fixed in Saucy but I'm not sure about the other flavours.

Changed in qemu-linaro (Ubuntu):
status: New → Fix Committed

Apparently that's a different source: qemu not qemu-linaro.
