Bug Description

When using kvm with sdl (i.e. just 'kvm -hda x.img'), then on startup the window flashes and constantly resizes, at least until the vm has started booting.

Changed in qemu-kvm (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed
importance: Undecided → Low
Serge Hallyn (serge-hallyn) wrote :

(Marking low priority as it can be worked around using vnc or simply ignored, and the vm boots anyway)

It seems to me that this has something to do with the desktop setup. My colleagues and I are all using qemu on Precise, but I am the only one running Unity (and the 3D layer, Compiz?). I will try how things are on my non-twinview laptop with an almost identical setup.

I forgot to mention that of my colleagues I seem to be the only one having this problem.

I think I managed to find a way to reproduce this problem:

1 Get a PC capable of doing NVidia TwinView
2 Install Vanilla Ubuntu Precise
3 Configure Xorg to do TwinView
4 Log in (Unity 3D) and use QEmu

My laptop (non-twinview, Precise, Unity) does not have this problem, while I can reproduce the flashing/resizing screen on two PC (twinview, Precise, Unity).

I will use apport-collect to attach my system information

This bug makes qemu unusuable on ubuntu via remote-x, since it resizes the window hundreds or thousands of times and each time requires the remote system to redraw the display, which can take several seconds each time.
