Bug Description

Binary package hint: qemu-kvm

Karmic.
apt-cache madison qemu-kvm
  qemu-kvm | 0.11.0~rc1-0ubuntu11 | http://it.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Packages
  qemu-kvm | 0.11.0~rc1-0ubuntu13 | http://it.archive.ubuntu.com karmic/main Sources

dpkg -l | grep qemu-kvm
ii qemu-kvm 0.11.0~rc1-0ubuntu11 Full virtualization on i386 and amd64 hardwa

According with qemu man:

       -kernel-kqemu
Enable KQEMU full virtualization (default is user mode only).

       -enable-kqemu
Enable KQEMU kernel module usage. KQEMU options are only available if KQEMU support is enabled when
           compiling.

If I run qemu with these option, I receive these lines:
qemu: invalid option -- '-kernel-kqemu'
qemu: invalid option -- '-enable-kqemu'

Are options been enabled during compilation ?

Hi Leo,

When using qemu-kvm, kqemu support is disabled at build time due to the fact that it breaks kvm functionality.

Is there any qemu package available in Karmic with kqemu anabled?

No, there is no kqemu in Karmic.

Upstream qemu has abandoned support for kqemu, as it's unmaintained and breaks kvm support.

This is not accepptable.
Why isn't there a qemu package without KVM?
Is it possible to install the qemu package from Debian Sid in Karmic?

You can install qemu-kvm on a system without KVM. You will be running with qemu emulation.

Hey!

Why it's wont fix??
You should provide a separate qemu-kqemu package what can be used with kqemu!!!

KVM is great, and you right, that it should be the default, but for us, who don't have cpu support for kvm, kqemu is an other (and only) option to make things really faster, than user mode qemu emulation!

The best way is to compile qemu-kvm.
