Bug Description

Binary package hint: qdvdauthor

ubuntu 7.10
qdvdauthor 0.8.5

Problem: Only shows "Error" when I click Add Movie.
Expected: A frame of the movie to be displayed in the left-hand-side window. Looks like I should be able to hit the play button, etc. but can't.

I thought it might be because I don't have Kaffeine installed so I installed that.Still have the same problem.

The author of qdvdauthor recommends downloading the latest cvs and
compiling it with mplayer support. The seems to be some of the
problem. I tried that and that solved that particular problem.

Make sure you have the jpeg output plugin for MPlayer for the screenshots with MPlayer to work.

I found that this plugin is sometimes not included.

Thanks guys. CVS version doesn't have that bug. It'd be nice if the
repository one was up-to-date, so we could get automated updates.

I'm still on 7.10 and don't know how to get 1.1.0 without compiling from
scratch which I'd rather not do. Can you provide steps (apt-get ?? etc.)
to get the 1.1.0 binary without having me upgrade my entire OS to Hardy?

I have the same problem, and I can add movies if I right click on the left side of the workspace (white area where video's are supposed to come). Without giving me any options, it allows me to add videos and everything works.

The second problem is that the background image is converted to 1 second long video, which of course doesn't match the duration of the audio file, and I have to click on the properties for the background picture and change the "geometry"!?

In the end, I run into a third problem: even though I have prepared the audio file for the main menu in mp2 format (the same way I used to do in Ubuntu 7.10), QDVDauthor insists on converting it to DVD acceptable format, basically doing the same conversion I already did.

After all this, the DVD seems to work.

Message for Bob Henz: It will not help you if you go to Hardy, because my problems started when I installed Hardy Heron.

The question is, how come there is a problem with QDVDauthor in 7.10? I was running it up untill I installed 8.04 without any problems.
The current version under 8.04 is 1.0104, the same as the version in beta.

For the author/maintainer (Varol): When I right click on the left side of the workspace, it does two things:

a) If I did not create a project, it immediately starts with a new project wizard
b) If I created a project, it immediately brings a file selection window that looks the same as in the old versions of QDVDauthor, and then I can add movies. This selection screen is not the same as the one that you get when you click on Add / Organize Video. If you click on the former, every video file has a nice "Error" icon.

So, the question is, is this how the program is supposed to work?

I have the same problem under Hardy and also having incorrect length values for mpeg videos.

I compiled manually the 1.2.0 version with MPlayer support and works perfect. Maybe is a problem with the compilation for Ubuntu, is it compiled with mplayer support?

Additionally, qdvdauthor crashes (SEGV) when I right-click and select "play" on the listed avi's/mpg's in the "Add movie source" dialog box. Again, all movies display "error" on the thumbnail, and none can be played regardless of what player I choose in tools > setup.

I get this behaviour too... summarised:

1) No thumbnails are displayed,

2) Can't add videos to the project through the filesystem browser, only by right clicking on the area to the left (the group to add to) and choosing "add".

3) Clicking on play crashes the whole app.

Thanks.

I get similar behaviour, which makes qdvdauthor completely unusable.
Cannot see a workaround - any ideas?

1) No thumbnails are displayed
[Same for me. Dummy thumbnails with the word "Error" on a blueish background will be generated]

2) Can't add videos to the project through the filesystem browser.
By right clicking on the area to the left (the group to add to) and choosing "add", i can select a video, but in my case qdvdauthor hangs after clicking OK

3) Clicking on play crashes the whole app.
[Same for me]

Using
Ubuntu version: Hardy
Package version: qdvdauthor 1:1.0.0-0.0ubuntu1 (hardy)
qdvdauthor version: 1.0104 (build:Jan 16 2008)

Screenshot attached

Thanks

I gave up on Ubuntu's qdvdauthor, so I am currently running openSUSE 11.0, and qdvdauthor works there (sort of):

- There are thumbnails
- You can play them, but you cannot add them to the project
- The only way to add videos is still through right click on the "left area" (either that, or I do not know how to use the program)
- version is 1.02

QDVDAuthor (varol) wrote :

You need to create Groups of the video files.

So you want to browse to the dir with youf files and then change the tab to Groups and drag the videos over into the group.

This is done so you can handle a large amount of video files easily. The same interface is used for slideshows in the upcoming release, where you usually look at multiple hundreds of images.

If I find the time I'll create a few screencasts.

This seems to have very recently just started working for me now - all the problem described above have gone away.

I didn't notice if there was an upgrade to qdvdauthor, or if some other packages got installed, but you might want to try to update to the latest packages (I have backports enabled too) to see if that helps.

I have qdvdquthor 1.0.0.0.

Sorry I only run LTS Unbuntu. I am not willing to upgrade. But I think
the new LTS comes out in a month or so right? So ask me again in May. :-)

Yes it is reproducible. I just installed qdvdauthor again and the movies
just say error and when I tried to add them and qdvdauthor crashed when I
tried to play the movie.
Does anyone have a link to a movieclip that is known to work?

Hey,

Sorry I am a bit out of Ubuntu. Which version of Ubuntu and QDVDAuthor are we talking about ?

One issue could be that the local installed MPlayer does not work as expected ( maybe jpeg output is not working ? )

Another option would be to try the Xine backend ( Tools -> Setup -> Media Backend )

If this option does not show up you will have to re-compile QDVDAuthor with xine support.

make sure the xine-devel packages are installed and then do
./configure -n --wget-buttons-library --wget-transitions --wget-masks
./configure -n --install
