Bug Description

I'm using kubuntu 12.04 and qapt-deb-installer doesn't work.

Step to reproduce:
1) Open a .deb package
2) Click install

Expected behaviour:
The deb package will be installed

Real behaviour:
The installer said "Done" but the package is still not installed. If the package has dependencies, the installer can install all of them through the repo but not the package itself.

Are you opening the .deb package directly or opening qapt-deb-installer first?

It doesn't seem to work using the latter method (although it should) on 12.10. I successfully installed Google Chrome by opening the .deb package directly. (from the file manager)

It's been a while since my last attempt to install a downloaded .deb
package. I'm a newbee in Linux. So my behavior as a user still looks very
"Windowslike". I definitely tried to install by using the package directly.
The same way I installed several other packages. But somehow this
installation method became useless. It just doesn't work.

So I make my compromises.
Do you have any suggestions?

Almost a year has passed and this bug is still present (13.04 x86_64)...
Seems like Kubuntu users are really put aside.

Kubuntu 12.04 and 12.10 were affected by this bug as well. I can't remember if it was the case for previous versions, but the 13.04 still affected too !

For the moment, the only way to contourn the problem, is to select gdebi-kde as default installer instead of qapt-deb-installer.

Please, this is a really bad and important bug, cause new users of Kubuntu, don't know about "dpkg -i" commands, or how to select another installer ....

Don't you think it's dramatically funny that the installer say "Done", but nothing is installed????

Hi there!

Thanks for reporting this bug! Your bug seems to be a problem with the KDE program itself, and not with our KDE packages. While we appreciate your issue, it would be better if it was tracked at https://bugs.kde.org, so that the KDE developers can deal with this speedily and have direct communication with you as the reporter for more effective debugging.

Thanks!
