I was upgrading from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 and while installing this module, upgrading process failed. Very annoying because I don't know if the upgrade process has left me with an instable computer.

I encountered the same problem when upgrading from Intrepid to Jaunty. Rebooted to complete the upgrade and ran dpkg --configure -a to finish the python-xml install. Got this:
$ sudo dpkg --configure -a python2. 5/site- packages/ PyXML-0. 8.4.egg- info not found. python2. 5/site- packages/ PyXML-0. 8.4.egg- info not found.
