xenial python-support doesn't install

python-support was removed from Debian and later from Ubuntu. Please use dh_python2 from dh-python package instead

so your system has not been cleaned after the dist-upgrade; which you might check with gtkorphan or autoremove

sudo apt-get purge python-support

I still think this is a bug - ideally they should have set up a transitional "python-support" package requiring the new one as described here: https://wiki.debian.org/Renaming_a_Package

As it is now, I guess packagers have to distribute a .deb for 16.04+ and a separate one for older systems?

This is a problem I encountered when installing https://folding.stanford.edu/releases/public/release/fahcontrol/debian-testing-64bit/v7.4/fahcontrol_7.4.4-1_all.deb

The problem still exists in yakkety yak.

So the problem is with the dependencies in the deb file?
