Bug Description

The latest netcdf package (1:4.4.0-1 ) is stuck in -proposed. This is presumably because the transition is waiting for python-scientific:
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/transitions/html/netcdf.html

python-scientific does not build because it is not compatible with the latest numPy (1.9), and will probably not be fixed before the Debian Import Freeze:
https://bitbucket.org/khinsen/scientificpython/issues/13/numpy-19-has-dropped-support-for
As you can see from that bug, python-scientific has been removed from most distributions (including Debian Testing).

Python-scientific should probably be removed from Ubuntu Xenial (16.04) as well.

The reverse dependencies have also been removed in Debian Testing and should also be removed from Ubuntu Xenial:
- sixpack
- mmtk
- dolfin
- gpivtools

Entirely removing it is not that easy, we need to remove a bunch of other packages that depend on it:

$ reverse-depends src:python-scientific
Reverse-Recommends
==================
* python-scitools (for python-scientific)
* science-distributedcomputing (for mpich2python)
* science-distributedcomputing (for python-mpi)
* science-distributedcomputing (for openmpipython)
* science-engineering-dev (for python-netcdf)
* science-meteorology (for python-netcdf)
* science-nanoscale-physics (for python-scientific)
* science-viewing (for python-scientific)
* science-viewing-dev (for python-scientific)

Reverse-Depends
===============
* gpivtools-mpi (for mpich2python)
* gpivtools-mpi (for openmpipython)
* gpivtools-mpi (for python-scientific)
* python-dolfin (for python-netcdf)
* python-mmtk (for python-netcdf)
* python-mmtk (for python-scientific)
* sixpack (for python-scientific)

$ reverse-depends -b src:python-scientific
Reverse-Build-Depends
=====================
* mmtk (for python-scientific)
* mmtk (for python-netcdf)

Are all of those ok to go?

I don't believe we need to do anything about the Reverse-Recommends.

sixpack, mmtk, dolfin, gpivtools and fenics (which depends on dolfin) will have to be removed as well.
