designer integration broken

Binary package hint: python-qt4

I just installed a fresh copy of lucid release.
Somehow custom designer widgets written in python do not show up anymore.
This can be reproduced by running the example from 'python-qt4-doc'
at '/usr/share/doc/python-qt4-doc/examples/designer/plugins/plugins.py'.
When running the script some custom designer widgets should
be usable from within the designer.
this worked fine in hardy (never used karmic).
the 'libpythonplugin.so' shows up fine in help->plugins but
does not list any custm plugins.
I am using version 4.7.2-0ubuntu1.

There may be a relation to bug 462895.
But designer integration also fails with my own designer plugins that worked in hardy.
