Is python-pip truly removed on purpose? python2 is available...

It appears so.. You can still get it from here though. https://pip.pypa.io/en/stable/installing/

Thank you for that suggestion. I did find that previously, but what has me concerned is this warning:

"Warning

Be cautious if you are using a Python install that is managed by your operating system or another package manager. get-pip.py does not coordinate with those tools, and may leave your system in an inconsistent state. "

Do you know how that might interfere with 20.04?

It seems to put everything in /home/USERNEAME/.local

I just added a PATH to .bashrc and everything was fine. I only use pip for a couple of things so i'm not personally worried.
