Bug Description
Although gnomecanvas can be a standalone python module, and does not depend on libgnome, the reverse isn't true. The gnome.ui module depends on gnomecanvas types, as can be seen in ui.override:
[...]
import gnomecanvas.Canvas as PyGnomeCanvas_Type
import gnomecanvas.
[...]
I noticed that if python-gnomecanvas isn't installed then the module gnome.ui isn't initialized properly and appears to be empty. This makes e.g. deskbar not start.
