Just for the record: Recoll only uses python:epub for indexing epub files.

Recoll uses pdftotext from the poppler-utils package to index PDFs.

Okay, but on 12.04 where there's a package that provides this part of Python, Recoll indexes the ".pdf"-s, and on 13.04 without the "python:epub" it DOES NOT.
"pdftotext" and "poppler-utils" are installed, I checked.

Doesn't resolve the original problem of python:epub not being packaged, but one can install pip, and then use that to install python:epub

So:
sudo apt-get install python-pip
sudo pip install epub
