Rename only renames one of selected files

This used to work fine for me, and I use it regularly.
But now when I highlight all files, or multiple files, and press preview, I get the right number of previewed file names. They're unique.

But clicking on Rename has no apparent effect.

If I then switch directories and come back to the same one, I see that just one of the files was renamed.

Instead, Rename should rename all the selected files, and should update the display immediately.
