this is exactly what happened to me:

It is quite major!

It means you can't create a binding with the property of a base class.

This should be fixed in Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, can you please check?

Unfortunately upstream does not have a proper VCS so it may be difficult to identify a particular patch that fixes this bug.
