Bug Description

I'm faced with two regression in Unity 5.2 (over 5.0 and 5.2).
When I connect my television over HDMI, sound is not transferred t the TV as it was before 5.2
I cannot get my laptop screen blank, but the TV on. The other way around (TV off, laptop on) works.

Both used to work up to the upgrade.

Are you sure the first part is about Unity 5.2? Because PulseAudio manages sound, not Unity.

And the second thing seems driver or X related to me.

Please note that the nvidia driver is installed but not active, this system has the optimus functionality so Nvidia GPU takes over using bumblebee, the Intel card is active by default.

As to the pulseaudio issue, it broke when Unity 5.2 was installed, or some dependency in that batch.
Last pulseaudio update is from january 30 if I have it right and sound was working correctly after.

We do not support hybrid graphics switching at this time. For now issues should be directed to the bumblebee folks or intel or nvidia.

Alberto Milone (tseliot) is planning on some work for enabling hybrid graphics; you could contact him directly if you'd like to assist him with testing.

(Fwiw, my guess is that having both the nvidia and i915 kernel drivers loaded is causing some confusion about which driver owns what. You might try blacklisting nvidia when you're using intel, but I don't know how that might interact with bumblebee. Again, best to contact them for assistance getting that to work.)

Leaving the unity task open to examine the issue raised in comment #4, although I suspect it's coincidental that it broke when unity was upgraded.

I understand that you do not support hybrid, but it used to work on 11.10 and 12.04 up to last week, The update batch that broke it contained Unity 5.2 and I think an Xorg update, not bumblebee or Nvidia...

Can you please add pulseaudio to the project list (I can only add upstream) as the HDMI audio issue should be theirs as the first poster indicated.

Can you check your apt log for a list of all packages that were upgraded along with Unity 5.2?

Right, the issue is sort of the inverse; when X (or the kernel) gets
updated, all the drivers and dependent bits and pieces have to be
rebuilt against the new stack, and sometimes various things need updated
to adjust to new APIs. We don't support bumblebee (yet) and thus don't
tend to any rebuilds or fixes that it might require.

The bumblebee folks probably tested against 11.10 to make sure their
stuff built against and worked with the kernel and X in those versions.
And they'll probably need to do so again for 12.04.
