no sound out, Apport seems to believe that it is caused by pulse audio, therefore attaching pulseaudio log

sudo chmod -R a+rwX /dev/snd solves the problem

That only masks the problem, which seems to be a problem between consolekit
and pulse. Did you check the pulse wiki pages on wiki.ubuntu.com?

You are right, this does only fix the problem temporarily. Yes, I did check the pages on wiki.ubuntu.com, but it didn't help.

Ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) reached end-of-life on May 9, 2013.
