hi everyone, my problem with ububtu 10.04 is that i get only the start up sound.. none of the other application plays sound could anyone please help me on this

which is your digital output, not the analog one normally associated with headphones or speakers. Is this choice intentional? If not, please choose the desired Profile and/or Connector in Sound Preferences.

thank you Mr. Chen for the response... the digital out put is through IEC958.. not sure though, and hav tried changing the sound preferences but doesnt seem to be coming through, is there something specific i need to do??? and im a total newbie to ubuntu hence i'm unfamiliar with the commands
