I've created a branch of metacity with the changes from the attached patch, and requested a merge with master, as that seems to be what I was supposed to do (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SponsorshipProcess). I've additionally subscribed ubuntu-main-sponsors to this bug. The wiki page on the sponsorship process was unclear as to whether I was supposed to do this in addition to requesting a merge or not. Given the lack of attention so far, I figured it couldn't hurt.
