Is this symptom reproducible if you install
linux-backports-modules-alsa-karmic and reboot?

The problem is that if i close laptop or restart, the problem is the same again. How can i find or fix the problem with the alsa drivers please? Thank you again...

Do you have slmodemd or hsfmodem installed?

You're probably experiencing one of myriad bugs regarding pulseaudio
not initializing correctly due to its module-udev-detect bailing when
it hits the modem device pcm:X,6.

In the meantime, you can do any/all of the following:

1) deinstall hsfmodem and sl-modem-daemon;
2) use module-udev instead of module-udev-detect.

Changed in alsa-driver (Ubuntu):
status: New → Triaged
importance: Undecided → Low
affects: alsa-driver (Ubuntu) → pulseaudio (Ubuntu)

ok. now it can play sound, but it uses the internal audio, analog stereo duplex. How can this problem be totally fixed? Or it is ok like that?When i will install the full Karmic, will this problem be solved? THNX!

This problem persists in Lucid Lynx with my System76 Pangolin Panp4n laptop. There is some conflict between the package modemmanager and pulseaudio that causes pulseaudio to lose the sound hardware. It replaces it with "dummy" and will not produce sound unless I uninstall modemmanager. As Lucid is supposed to be the bug killer release, this one would be a nice one to dispose of. I'd like to be able to fax things on occasion using my modem, and as it is, it is unuseable without sacrificing sound.
