Bug Description

Binary package hint: pulseaudio

I upgraded to karmik beda: (Release: 9.10)

Alsa works OK, i.e. aplay -Dplug:hw:1 works. The secondary card is detected, but doesn't work no matter what profile is selected. Also connecting to bluetooth headset blocks pulseaudio daemon. Nother problems are detected with the primary on-board card - the volume becomes impossible to set up. I.e. After setting it up to a certain level it returns itself. Also when rythmbox changes from one track to another - the volume goes to zero.

Is this problem reproducible using the ubuntu-audio-dev PPA?

yes, I just upgraded using the PPA you suggested and the problem is the same. Now I noticed that the problem with volume is happennning only with Rythmbox, but when using mpg123 volume can be set up correctly.

The ice1712 issue is well-known and depends on a fix landing in
alsa-lib (that will not be in Karmic without sufficient testing,
which, at this point, is fairly unlikely).

Please suggest how can I benefit on that fix (i.e. where I can download it). And also what about the second issue with volume?

BTW is there any temporary solution to this problem, until the real
patch is released? Anyway I would like to test the unreleased fix!

Please see the PulseAudio Trac ticket for the front:0 definition, or
you can modify /etc/pulse/default.pa (or ~/.pulse/default.pa) with the
appropriate channelmap.

Thank you for the suggesiton, at least i have a sound now. however the
problem with volume slider still remains. The volume slider behaves the
same either in pulseaudio volume settings either in Rythmbox. As before,
the problem is not see when using mpg123 or Totem. So may be it is a
specific rythmbox issue? Also any ideeas how to fix bt headset issue?
A simple power on of the headset block pulseaudio daemon for about 1 minute.

After some more experiments I noticed that volume control problem is
caused by replay gain settings in Rhythmbox. After disabling replay gain
- volume control is behaving normally.
