Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I'm not 100% sure where to report this bug, so I do it here.

Using the default settings I have no audio playback with the edirol UA-25 USB 2.0 and pulseaudio in ubuntu 9.04 (final). This was working with ubuntu 8.10 (32/64).

When I try to play a mp3 file with rhythmbox it just doesn't start. Flash audio players don't start. Just totally no sound, only during login (I hear the ubuntu startup sound).

When I go to sound preferences (System -> preferences -> Sound) and I do the following things:
* Sound events: autodetect -> press test, no sound
* Music and movies: autodetect -> press test, no sound
* Changing to alsa crashes sound preferences (it hangs, no response).
* Changing to pulse audio doesn't give test audio out.

Solution: Changing to OSS gives test signal, audio playback works. The only problem is that I can't controle the volume now from the volume widget.

affects: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) → pulseaudio (Ubuntu)

I'm having the same problem with a E-MU 0202 USB.

BUT: Sound output temporarily works if i kill pulseaudio ("pulseaudio -k") right before i start playback. Pulse will then start up and playback (100% confirmed that sound goes through pulse). If i stop playback and start another application / restart my audio player, playback will fail and the client will hang / be unresponsive until i manually kill pulseaudio again.
