Bug Description
Binary package hint: pulseaudio
I have just installed Intrepid and updated it. When I first started Ubuntu, I noticed the login music was coming from my pc-speaker (I didn't even know it could do that, although it sounds like it's not designed to be able to). All my sound (system sounds, rhythmbox etc) was being output through the crappy pc-speaker. I checked System -> Preferences -> Sound and realised that Autodetect / Pulseaudio was causing the problem, as ALSA works as expected (although flash / youtube still uses the pc-speaker).
$ cat /proc/asound/cards
0 [Intel ]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel
1 [pcsp ]: PC-Speaker - pcsp
2 [U0x46d0x8c1 ]: USB-Audio - USB Device 0x46d:0x8c1
0 is my proper onboard sound.
1 is my pc-speaker.
2 is my webcam with a microphone which I don't care about.
Sound works fine with Hardy + Pulseaudio, as pcsp isn't detected. It's strange that the pc-speaker is even detected as an output device, let alone that it's used as the default for pulseaudio.
