Bug Description

[Impact]
Users reported the audio and video is out of sync when entering suspend during playback on bionic.

[Fix]
The mainline pulseaudio already has the fix for this issue, and the fix is already in the eoan, focal and groovy, but it is not in the bionic.

[Test Case]
open a online video on the firefox, while it is playing, suspend the system, wait for 30 seconds, resume the system, the audio and video is still on the sync.

[Potential Regression Risk]
Low, these 2 patches are already in the mainline pulseaudio, and already in the eoan, focal and groovy.

Most of the change is in the suspend/unsuspend on alsa sink/source, the potential regression risk is the playback/recording stops working after
machine suspend and resume or playback/recording has an obvious discontinuity before suspend and after resume. I have done the test on a Lenovo and a Dell machine, the playback/recording worked well after resuming.

This is the debdiff for bionic.

Since the patches are already in the mainline, eoan and focal already have the patches, no need to send debdiff for eoan and focal.

@Hui, thanks for the work, do you want that bionic update uploaded now or should we try to include other pending fixes still there?

Łukasz Zemczak (sil2100) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Hui, or anyone else affected,

Accepted pulseaudio into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:11.1-1ubuntu7.9 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

Thank you for the SRU! I will accept it as I see it was waiting in the queue long enough already, but I would appreciate a bit more investigation regarding the regression potential. Could you please update the [Regression Potential] field with information regarding in which places potential regressions could be seen after users upgrade to this package version? The introduced patches are quite big, touching a lot of code, so I'd like someone look at the changes and try to identify possible unrelated use-cases that can be broken by those changes.

Install the 18.04 on a Lenovo and a Dell machine, run apt-get dist-upgrade.

Open Software & Update, enable bionic-proposed

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt install pulseaudio
check the puleaudio is 1:11.1-1ubuntu7.9

Open the browser and play a online video from sohu.com, suspend the machine, wait for 20s, resume the machine, the sound and video is still in sync.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for pulseaudio has completed successfully and the package is now being released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.
