Bug Description

When I try to load pulseaudio-module-jack modules, I get an error:

Failure: Module initialization failed

When I look in /usr/lib/pulse-8.0/modules/ there are no jack modules.

So I then tried to install it with `sudo apt install pulseaudio-module-jack` after first running `sudo apt update`. The output gives me this error:

Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package pulseaudio-module-jack is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source

E: Package 'pulseaudio-module-jack' has no installation candidate

Hmm, that's not right. The command:
  sudo apt install pulseaudio-module-jack
completes successfully on 16.04 for me.

Please run:
  dpkg -l > dpkgl.txt
and send us the resulting file.

You may also want to try downloading the package(s) directly:
  https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/1:8.0-0ubuntu3.10/+build/14813746

Thanks for the reminder. I always run that first and just tried it again.

I'll try that as a stop gap.

dpkg output attached.

Thanks for the listing. That shows you are missing pulseaudio-module-jack, making this bug invalid.

If you continue to have trouble installing the package then please log that as a new bug.

I don't understand what that means?

Seriously? It's all part of the same problem. Is there a good reason this can't be dealt with in this bug?

For now I was able to install the module using the links you gave me, but I'm still concerned that was a manual process and I'd like to fix the bug with me not being able to install it using the normal 'apt' commands and having to use 'dpkg' instead.

We can keep this bug ID but you'll need to reword the bug title and description to encompass the actual problem. The initial problem you reported is invalid - that was the jack module not working. Because the jack module wasn't installed.

Please reword the bug title and description however you like, and when done set the bug status back to 'New'.
