sound will not function in any form

audio fail in any format, weather using main speakers head phones, or external head phones. im not new to Ubuntu and have solved several audio issues in the past but this one eludes me. i am making the assumption that there may be no Linux compatible sound driver, this is NOT a dual boot operating system, i have no other computer at the moment and if i did i have not used a windows OS in over 20 years and would not know how to. with all my years of running Linux ive never had a problem so big that i couldn't just look it up, i do now. this is a 32 bit microwatt OS with Ubuntu a its base. 32 bit, 1 gb ram, 134 gb hard disk, Intel atom n450 or n470 processes at 1.66 GHz manufactured in 2009. i cant give much in terms of what is wrong with the sound, as i myself do not know. as for giving the steps ive already taken those are many and i haven't kept a list.
