do you mean sound is distorted when PCM playback volume is over 0dB ?

It may well be the case BUT I just play a song on YouTube using Firefox 22 or in Rhythmbox. In other words, I DO NOT set the PCM playback manually in any way to be over 0 dB so I really do not know whether the PCM playback volume is set over that value.
