Hi daniele,

Is it both internal mic and external mic (plugged into the jack) that is not working? If it's only internal, try the "Inverted internal mic" suggestion here:

Hi David

i tested with pavucontrol and:

- the external mic works fine
- the "internal mic" does not work even if i mute a channel
- the internal mic position works when the external one is plugged in.
This is the external one that somehow is going through that channel
because the sound volume varies with the distance between the external
mic and my mouth while it is not changing if i get closer to the
computer mic. The quality of the sound is poorer, however

any idea?

also, the vumeter bar of the recording level in pavucontrol is all
orange (at the top) when the external mic is not plugged in

Perhaps the hardware is broken? Have you tried it under Windows (and if so, it could be good to know if it required extra drivers to work)?

I have not tried the windows side. I erased everything and put ubuntu on
the machine.

How likely is at this point that I could be a broken hardware?
I could do reinstall windows but it would be a huge deal because this is
the machine i work with.

by the way, if it turns out that the hardware is ok and pulseaudio
cannot support it just now, could i replace the hardware with a
different card that you know it is going to work fine?

Other tests i could run?

Is the problem that the recording is extremely noisy, or that it is completely silent? Or do you get error messages when trying to record?

In case it's noisy, maybe you can try going into alsamixer and reducing "Internal Mic" one or two steps and see if it makes a difference?
