Bug Description

On a recent upgrade (within the last day or so) my logitech headset is no longer getting sound from the sound settings.

"ClearChat Pro USB" is selectable in the Output section of the sound settings, but no sound comes out.

Tested the headset on my precise desktop to confirm that the headset itself still works, and all is good.

No, selecting the headset in the sound settings wasn't giving any other visual feedback (as it does in precise), no option to choose mono

To fix the issue just delete ~/.pulse and restart computer. I did it with my headset plugged in - not sure if it makes a difference.

I'm in a somewhat different case.
I recently upgraded to 12.04, updated to lately, almost now, and the sound no longer comes in (not from the headset but from the microphone). In fact, strangely, the mike works just after a reboot but not after it has been unplugged (and, need I say, replugged). The output is OK.
The device is a 04b4:0307, an ubiquitous chip found in soundcards and, in my case, an USB phone.

I have tested various operating systems on VirtualBox, but Unity is so screen consuming that Ubuntu no longer works on VirtualBox and that I could only carry the tests with LinuxMint.

The results are surprising. It seems that as soon as Ubuntu got busy with Unity stuff it has no longer time to support audio.

I have Saucy with all updates, Logitech USB H800 headset. Confirm that sound does not work either in or out.
I think that part of the problem has to do with dbus. The .dbus folder in ~home is registered to root rather than the user.
