Bug Description
I just installed Ubuntu 12.4 and laptop speakers worked out of the box at first.
Headphones do not work at all, and now that I tried to put them in, laptop speaker sound also ceased to function. Test sounds in sound settings are not audible. I do get the ubuntu startup sound on the login screen after I restart the computer, so it's not a physical problem.
I tried to use alsamixer to unmute all channels without any effect at all.
Thanks for your attention.

I have solved the problem. In the "Sound Settings" Window, I had erroneously selected "Digital Output (S/PDIF)" instead of "Speaker" /"Headphones" .
Again, thank you for your attention. Sorry for the trouble.
