Bug Description

The automatic updates just came up with a big red circle with a white dash, the updates refused to run.

The updater complained about a broken package which turned out to be an incomplete Java 6 install. I tried to correct it, tried to remove it, then I started getting these crash pop-ups.

I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 and it's been running just fine up until suddenly.
