Bug Description

Hi,

first of all, thanks for all the hard work put in Ubuntu!

From 1.3.3 SFTP support is in the core source tree, and it seems the Debian unstable package was updated to include 1.3.3 with the required modules.

https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/debian/experimental/proftpd-dfsg/experimental

As ftp is insecure and tls/ssl clients are rare, mod_sftp is a painless way to upgrade a proftpd installation to meet the security level required in the wild. With virtual hosting, it is possible by mod_sftp to operate a fully virtual user table in ldap/sql and enable sftp without messing libnss or pam. As 10.04 is a long term support system, it would be very nice to have sftp in it.

I searched for ppa-s providing something to test, but the closest one

https://launchpad.net/~chris-vigelius/+archive/chrisv/+packages

has 1.3.2 only.

This also effects precise, and it would be nice it was fixed.

Supporting sftp users outside the normal system users is a bear with openssh, and this looks like a clean alternative.
