Looks like an issue with part of the teamviewerd (which isn't part of the Ubuntu archive) package:

update-rc.d: warning: start and stop actions are no longer supported; falling back to defaults
insserv: warning: script 'K07smfpd' missing LSB tags and overrides
insserv: warning: script 'smfpd' missing LSB tags and overrides
insserv: There is a loop at service teamviewerd if started
insserv: There is a loop between service teamviewerd and procps if started
insserv: loop involving service procps at depth 2
insserv: loop involving service udev at depth 1
insserv: There is a loop between service smfpd and teamviewerd if started
insserv: loop involving service teamviewerd at depth 2
insserv: loop involving service smfpd at depth 1

However I removed teamviewer alltogether and the "packages failed to
install" message keeps occuring, not sure what to do.

It now looks like there is an issue with the package that provides the smfpd service:

insserv: Starting smfpd depends on ondemand and therefore on system facility `$all' which can not be true!
