I have done a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.10 and there was no "Windows Printer via SAMBA" option in adding a network printer.

I had to install 3 packages and then restart CUPS to get SAMBA added to adding a new network printer. Now the "browse" button is greyed, even if I paste the server in. Can't browse for the printer like I used to be able to.

I have restarted the laptop and still same thing.

Let me know what logs etc people need. Thanks.

I installed:

libsmbclient
smbclient
python-smbc

Hi, I've the same issue, Ubuntu 14.10 fresh install and no "Windows Printer via SAMBA" option in adding a network printer.
After the installation of:
libsmbclient
smbclient
python-smbc
the browse button is present but disabled (greyed).

Same here:
Ubuntu 14.10 fresh install.
Browse option disabled.
I have no problems to see and access the workgroup.

Problem persists.
Had to install SAMBA to get access through file browser.
Both Browse and Verify buttons are greyed out.
Hope something can be done.

Same here, on a fresh install of Ubuntu 14.10. Installing python-smbc and python3-smbc did not help.
A workaround is to get the exact share name from the printer server and enter it in the text field as "hostname/sharename" or "ip-address/sharename", and then press "Next". But the network really ought to be browseable for printers.

Just switched back from Mint to Ubuntu Mate to have this issues as well. I would have thought this would have been fixed by now.
