prelink fragments the files

Bug Description

Binary package hint: prelink

The below command shows that the file fragmentation increases after the first activation of prelink:
sudo find / -xdev -type f -exec filefrag '{}' \; | grep -v "[01] extent"

I activated prelink by setting "yes" in /etc/default/prelink and running the /etc/cron.daily/prelink task.

Why not reallocating the whole file when its content is changed ? Moreover it would also defragment the files which were previously fragmented.

Since the goal of prelink is to speedup the applications launch I think that reallocating the file blocks isn't out of the scope of prelink.

IMHO this bug should be fowarded to prelink upstream mantainers, shouldn't be fixed downstream

Now upstream is Git http://pkgs.fedoraproject.org/cgit/prelink.git

But judging from number of bugs in Fedora, Jakub does not spendsvery much time on prelink.

In RedHat distro, a similar bug in the elfutils package will be fixed with 0.162 version. See comment #5 here :
