Bug Description

Extreme Tux Racer is a continuation of Planet Penguin Racer, which seems to be dead. The homepage is at http://www.extremetuxracer.com/, and upstream already provides usable Debian packages.

Apparently this bug is being treated as a request for packaging of Extreme Tux Racer, so this is a revised description. Original description below:

I've tried the 'alpha' version from http://projects.planetpenguin.de/racer/, and in my opinion it is better to ship that than 0.3.1, which is getting very stale.

Some reasons to ship the newer one:
-0.3.1 won't let you bind non alphanumeric keys, 0.5 does
-0.3.1 has a bug that has been fixed, where hitting enter allows the user to enter any race, even if they shouldn't be allowed.
-0.5 has more flexibility in the options menus
-despite being labeled an alpha release, I've had no problems with 0.5

As a side note: you can assign alphanumeric keys with the ubuntu version of 0.3.1, see bug #33737.

So, planetpenguin-racer is dead - web page, mentioned in package description doesn't exists anymore, also there are no new versions for about 2 years... :(
Good news is, that there is new team/new fork - extremetuxracer and there are also Ubuntu packages - look at:

http://planetpenguinracer.com or www.extremetuxracer.com

So, please package extremetuxracer as new ppracer/tuxracer version.

I've packaged extremetuxracer: http://revu.ubuntuwire.com/details.py?package=extremetuxracer
planetpenguin-racer should be a dummy package which depends on extremetuxracer.

I'm unsubscribing ubuntu-universe-sponsors for now, let's move to REVU.

Added Extreme Tux Racer project to the bug. The debs for ETRacer are in my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~woodypl/+archive) since 0.4 has been released, but I don't know if it's useful...
